"Folding Chair," Regina Spektor

There's a song called "Folding Chair" by Regina Spektor that I have been listening to lately.  It's a fun song.  Anyway, every time I listen to it I notice a particular line and want to write about it - today is finally the day! :)

"I have a perfect body, though sometimes I forget.  I've got a perfect body because my eyelashes catch my sweat."

Every time I hear that line, I think about how profound it is.  I, too, have a perfect body, though sometimes I forget.  Sometimes people (including me) get caught up in thinking that having a perfect body means having the skinniest or the healthiest or the most in-shape or the prettiest body.  But how often am I thankful for the functions it performs perfectly every single day?

I have a perfect body because I have two arms, two legs, ten fingers, and ten toes that all work.  So what if my toes are a different shape than most people's?

I have a perfect body because my brain works.  What does it matter if I'm not the smartest person in the world?

I have a perfect body because I can do just about anything I want to do without having problems.  I may not be able to run from Kelli's house to the Smith Fieldhouse (0.3 miles) without taking a break to walk, but I could if I trained myself to.

I can eat food, take nutrients from it, and get rid of the non-beneficial stuff.  So what if I weigh more than I sometimes wish?

I have hair, and I like it.  Who cares if it's not always styled perfectly?

I have a perfect body because I can paint my fingernails.  I can read.  I can drive.  I have ears to hold my glasses up and let me hear.  I can think.  I can sew.  I can walk.  I can run.  I can ride my bike.  I can talk.  I can breathe.  I can smell.  I can care.  I can do a lot of things because my body lets me.

I have a perfect body because my eyelashes catch my sweat.

What a Fool Believes

I love this song.

Credit to Kelli for reminding me what it was called. :) Thanks!

the age-old Christmas question -

Who tells scary ghost stories on Christmas?

Christmas songs

I love Christmas songs!  I have been listening to them almost exclusively since before Thanksgiving.  I like pretty much every Christmas song.  Some exceptions: Santa Baby (I always think of when Hope was singing it in show choir in high school and the choir teacher told them to sing it to their dads.... WEIRD); Baby, It's Cold Outside; the weird version of Deck the Halls that I have that Carrie and Joel hate.  I love the Carpenter Christmas album. It's so Christmas-y!  And Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" is a must-play.  "Joy to the World" from The Preacher's Wife makes me wish I were black.  Bing Crosby, Faith Hill, Polar Express, David Archuleta, and Darlene Love ("It's a Marshmallow World") also have some great ones.  This is the one, besides "Marshmallow World," that I really love right now, introduced to me by Nick Walter.  Enjoy!

And just for fun...

Dakota

And, on that note, this song has me completely wanting to name a daughter Dakota :)

Brandy Alexander

This song completely has me wanting to name our daughter, if we ever have one, Brandy Alexander.  Something about it makes me feel like it would be perfectly acceptable, even though I know the name Alexander isn't a girl's name, even for a middle name.  Listen to it and then try telling me I'm not right.

Note:  I just looked up the lyrics for the first time and learned that the song is not, in fact, about a girl named Brandy Alexander, but a boy that's being compared to a Brandy Alexander, which is an alcoholic drink, another thing I didn't know.  Soo.... Pretend a Brandy Alexander isn't a drink and that the words are "Brandy Alexander is always getting into trouble," since I always thought that's what they were, and and then try telling me you don't agree with it being a cute name :)

what's love got to do, got to do with it?

What's love but a second-hand emotion?

That song always reminds me of Elizabeth Kulogowski, who everyone calls Kuli but who I have always called Elizabeth, for some reason... but it reminds me of her because one time, in tenth grade, at the end of chemistry one day, she came up to me and said, "What's love got to do with it?" and this girl who was kind of quiet said, "It's a second-hand emotion."  It was awesome.

Speaking of Elizabeth, that totally reminds me of the time that my ride left me at seminary instead of taking me to school.  but I'm out of time, so I'll have to write about that another day.

but what does love have to do with it?!
